The Long and Short
The short list for the British Science Fiction Association Awards is now online, and contains work from all sorts of people I like. I'm pulling for Ian McDonald's Brasyl in the Best Novel category, myself, and Ted Chiang's "The Merchant and the Alchemist's Gate" in Best Short Fiction. And definitely Fritz Leiber's The Big Time in the Best Novel of 1958 category, which is my favorite of his novels by far.
But what's my pick in Best Artwork?
Well, how about Kenn Brown's illustration for my own "Metal Dragon Year," from Interzone #213. That's a good choice, I think. See if you don't agree...

It turns out that someone thought enough of the story itself to nominate it, as well, which means it appears on the BSFA Awards long list. Hurray, team!
