Plug-in

Allison, who is now the Precinct Chair for Democratic Precinct 333 (short story even shorter, she tried to find out who our precinct chair was so she could volunteer, found that the position was vacant, and was promptly offered the job), heard about the following initiative at her first party meeting last week. In the words of the petition, "Austin Energy, our city's community-owned electric utility, is developing a plan to provide rebates for the purchase of plug-in hybrid electric automobiles."

In essence, Austin's municipal energy outfit is trying to petition automakers to produce plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), a "gas-optional vehicle that offers a viable alternative to petroleum dependant transportation." So there.

A write up of the proposal is here, and the petition (which is open to everyone, including non-Austin, non-Texas residents) is here.
