Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated

I have vague memories of hearing about this forthcoming show, but this is the first time I’ve actually gotten excited about it. I’ve raved about the work of animator and character designer Derrick Wyatt before, but today I’ve got him to thank for posting a preview of the upcoming Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated series on his blog.

Here’s how Wyatt describes the series:

“Meet Dale and Angie Dinkley! Barty and Nan Blake! Colton and Paula Rogers! And Mayor Fred Jones, Sr. Join the gang and their extremely disappointed parents for Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated, coming this July!”

And here’s the preview:

Check out more about the upcoming Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated at Cartoon Network.com, and watch for the series to start in July.

Oh, those meddlesome kids! If it hadn’t been for them, I would have controlled this lucrative Gulf Coast development!

Er, what deep sea drilling disaster?

Actually, this looks very cool, taking in all the speculation about the characters for 30 years… interesting to see the parents in the trailer and Velma try to smooch Shaggy!

I really enjoyed the fairly recent series, “What’s New, Scooby Doo?”, which I felt really captured a lot of the feeling of the original series, and was written in a very smart, self-aware style. I don’t recall it including so many specific references to the villains of the original series, though, as this teaser suggests the new series will. My daughter LOVES Scooby Doo, but tends to get burned out from watching it from time to time. Maybe a new take will keep her interest for a while.
