IRON JAW & HUMMINGBIRD
The backdrop of Iron Jaw & Hummingbird is a world on the verge of revolution. For centuries Mars has been ruled by the Dragon Throne of Imperial China, but the emperor and his court visit Mars only once in every few generations, leaving the day-to-day (and decade-to-decade) management of the society to a system of regional governors, with a governor-general in authority over the whole planet. As the story opens, Mars is several decades into the rule of one of the most repressive, tyrannical governor-generals it has ever known. What is worse, the governance at a regional level has been given over entirely to the military governors for each province, who are free to act without any controls. Corruption and oppression are the order of the day. Iron Jaw & Hummingbird is the story of Gamine, a child of the streets, and Huang, a spoiled son of privilege. Though they walk separate roads, encountering bandits, religious fanatics, thieves, and madmen along the way, they both travel inexorably towards the same destination: revolution.
