The Secret Saturdays, Kirby-style
I had completely forgotten this image that Jay Stephens posted late last year, done by J. Ortiz for the "legendary, off-model" Cartoon Network Calendar. Behold the Saturdays in pure Kirby form...
Has anyone else been keeping up with the show on Cartoon Network? Georgia and I are absolutely hooked on it. There's just something about getting up on Saturday morning with her every week and having that pure awesomeness waiting for us on the Tivo that reminds me of watching terrific old adventure cartoons when I was her age on Saturday mornings. Only now, when the show's over we don't have to suffer through PSAs about how we should eat cheese or avoid littering or something, but can just rewind back to the beginning and watch again...

Yeah, this is the stuff I have to admit. I really don't enjoy animation much anymore, but I always appreciate something well-done(unless it's red meat, I like that medium rare). I appreciate that it doesn't feel the need to burden itself with too much "Postmodern Irony"TM, and just makes itself a pretty straight-faced adventure show. Plus V.V. Argost is actually a sweet villain.
I have high hopes for Brave and the Bold too, it seems so unashamedly Silver Age and that, to me, is no bad thing.
And to save me from posting another comment, that Arthur Adams poster is pretty cool, the more I look at it, the more I like it. Of course AoA is right up his alley.

Thanks to TiVo, my seven-year-old and I are sharing a similar experience. I introduced him to Jonny Quest over a year ago, and he became an instant fan. Now, we both eagerly await Secret Saturdays.
I completely agree, Greg. One of the things I love most about Secret Saturdays is the fact that it is what it says on the label, and doesn't hide the adventure stuff behind a jokesy facade (as many of the other kids adventure cartoons of recent years have often done, as much as I've enjoyed them). Which isn't to say there isn't real humor in there, of course!
I tried to get Georgia turned onto Jonny Quest, robo, but so far without any success. Scooby Doo, now, she's all over that...
