Cybermancy Incorporated available on Kindle

It is what it says on the label. Cybermancy Incorporated, the long unavailable novel that introduced the Bonaventure and Carmody families, is now available on Amazon's Kindle. The list price is $4.99, but at the moment Amazon is offering it for only $3.99.

Some may recall that this novel was previously made available through Wowio last winter, but the online outlet ran into some money troubles, and was acquired by another outfit, and along the way I removed the title from its offerings. (If you're at all interested in the inside-baseball of all of this, check out this article on PW's The Beat and work your way backwards.)

Here's what I said about Cybermancy Incorporated back in February:
Sooner or later, I'm sure, I'll succeed in tricking some publisher into reprinting the thing, but even then, it wouldn't be this same text. The Bonaventure-Carmody characters started out as part of the shared world of San Cibola in the Clockwork Storybook days, but as they made the transition for the webzine to the novels published by Pyr and Solaris, they got tweaked a bit, moving away from the urban fantasy environment of San Cibola and into a more science fictional world (though admittedly a pulpish one). So the version of this novel that eventually gets reprinted will be one that takes place in some other alternate universe out in the Myriad, with revisions and changes here and there. No longer set in San Cibola, but in Recondito, California, most of the plot will be the same, but there's be some significant differences.
If you've got a Kindle, and have ever had any interest in checking out the book, or are curious to find out more about the Carmody and Bonaventure families featured in Here, There & Everywhere, Paragaea: A Planetary Romance, Set the Seas on Fire, and the forthcoming End of the Century, here's your chance.

Comments:
Ah, the Kindle. I would like one, but the price tag is out of my reach at the moment. But I dream, I dream.

So far I've only had a chance to explore your Celestial Empire stories, but some of the Carmody and Bonaventure titles have been noted for later exploration. I think you added another reason to get a Kindle, at least. Maybe I'll start saving my pennies (or maybe I'll trick a bunch of people into banding together for Christmas...)

Actually, I don't own a Kindle either. I've got a list of specs in my head for the hand-held e-reader of my dreams (wifi, color multitouch screen, peripheral keyboard, audio playback + headphone jacks, etc), and while we keep getting closer and closer to it, we're not there yet...

I'm most likely upgrading to an iPhone soon, and I know there's an E-Reader app for that, so I will probably go that route instead as an intro to digital books.

I actually read Cybermancy on my Kindle a couple weeks ago and have been meaning to post about it for awhile. I had downloaded it when it was on WOWIO and uploaded it to my Kindle. Sorry to cut you out of your share of the $3.99.

Two quick things -

First, a few people got together and bought me a Kindle for my birthday, so the price wasn't an issue and I have to say that it lives up to the hype. Very easy to use, fits into your hand like a glove and best of all after a few minutes you forget you're reading like some character on Star Trek would.

Second, Cybermancy, Inc. was fun. I especially enjoyed the flashbacks to previous Carmody/Bonaventure adventures. One question though, was JCB's grand plan to reshape the social order suppose to be kind of creepy? It seemed that way, especially after the conversation between his grandfather and great uncle. Foreshadowing or just a mistaken reading on my part?

Looking forward to the next official entry into the saga!

You are dodging the rest of us again! :)

Wowio when it was US only. Now another US only.

Definitely foreshadowing. And yes, intended to sound appealing on first blush, but creepier the more one thought about it. The long-term plans, at that stage, were for JB Carmody to eventually really try to take over the world, ostensibly for its own good, which would bring him into conflict with the other members of his team. When I get back to Carmody now, which I'm planning to do in a novel tentatively titled Broken Symmetry, the arc of his character has taken him in a much different direction. Best laid plans...

Aargh! I didn't realize this was US only, too! I'll have to investigate other options that might work overseas.

I'm glad that it is available again in whatever form. I quite enjoyed reading my real-book version.

Thanks, Stu!

You'd have easily enough stuff for Fictionwise if you wanted to, Chris, I think?

Everyone can definitely do them.

Cheers,

bt

Mmm. An interesting suggestion. Thanks, I'll have to look into that.
