A Moment of Silence
This makes me sad in ways it's difficult for me to articulate.
I mean...
Jesus. That sucks.
It's official—Marvel Comics has announced that Ed Brubaker, Matt Fraction, and David Aja are leaving The Immortal Iron Fist after issue #16, to be replaced by the team of Cable writer Duane Swierczynski, who will be joined by artist Travel Foreman.I have no beef with Swierczynski or Foreman, neither of whose work I know, but come on... As I've said many times before, my love for Immortal Iron Fist knows no bounds. I fully expected Brubaker to have to back away from the book, too busy with other commitments, but was sure that we'd have Fraction on the book for a while to come. But no.
I mean...

Yeah, I was a little stunned when I read that headline too. I was looking for a Starman-esque run on the character, like a few others. But I'll give it a shot, Swierczynski's first issue at least sounds like nice premise. I know if I was offered this book, I'd have jumped at a chance to write it so I wish him luck. I'll stick around, partially because there's no surer way to get the book cancelled than jumping ship. Still sucks though, I'll miss them all, but Aja's art especially, he really is something else.

After posting that yesterday I checked out the first two issues of Swierczynski's Cable, and thought they showed promise. So I'll be giving him a few issues on Immortal Iron Fist to convince me. But like you, I was definitely hoping for a long run by Fraction on the book, particularly after the Orson Randall one-shot a few months ago. The whole book seems so much in Fraction's wheelhouse that I was curious to see what he'd do with it over the long haul.
But yeah, Aja will definitely be missed.
