Roberson's Interminable Ramble

I was all excited when I heard that 'The Best of the Electric Company' was coming out only to find that it was five compleat episodes that someone had picked out as 'the best'.

Boo! I wanted all the Letterman episodes, all the Spiderman stuff and as much psychedelic animation as possible.

There was a funny 'pee' joke on the blooper reel though. . .

I will probably get this as well, but won't get my hopes up too high.
 

Yeah, complete seasons would be ideal, but this beats nothing. Heck, aside from some reruns a few years ago on Noggin, I don't think most of these things have been aired in years. Aside from the odd clip on YouTube I've been unable to show my daughter much of anything that represents what Sesame Street was like when I was a kid. On a few of the older Sesame Street DVDs there's the occasional appearance by Kermit the Frog (these having been packaged before the Sesame folks lost the rights to use him), and she always flips out when she sees him on screen. I'm worried that this Old School set won't include any Kermit, either, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I netflixed the first disc of the Electric Company set, though, and while I was pretty disappointed, too, to see only a scattered sampling of episodes, it was still definitely worth the rental. My daughter was pretty mesmerized by the thing (as was I, but for entirely different reasons; I mean, damn, but that was one groovy show...).

My thinking is that if this kind of thing does well enough that fuller versions might be in the offing further down the line. That's my rationale, at least (and it's the same I've used for the Fraggle Rock and Muppet Show sets, so it's a rationale with legs, at least).
