Caprica
A Battlestar Galactica spinoff?
"Set more than 50 years before the events of Battlestar Galactica, Caprica takes place on the capital world of the Twelve Colonies. There humankind thrives, living in a peaceful society with the benefits of high technology. But the development of an advanced, robotic, artificial life form is about to change everything."
I'm not sure what I think about this. My love for BSG knows no bounds, and I've got nothing but faith in executive producer Ron Moore, so I should be optimistic. But television has not necessarily been kind to SF spinoffs (and vice versa). For every Deep Space Nine, there's a Voyager, if you know what I mean. So my primary reaction is just, well, hmmm...

Oh. My.
This could be good. The new Galactica certainly has a rich enough history to be fleshed out. But I have a sneaking suspicion that this is an excuse to simply do a planet-centered version of Galactica for far less $$$. And if by "futuristic" they mean the Capricans are so advanced they drive around in fossil fuel burning humvees just like people on Earth (and--WOW-come to think of it, the folks on the current Galactica) then I'll pass.
I mean, sheesh. Talk about screwing over the verisimilitude. Even my non-SFnal brother was bothered by that. Couldn't they have at least used one of those giant land rover tanks from the original series?
